The End... Kinda

Having followed Drive from greenlight to cancelation to greenlighting and having interviewed Tim twice, the blog is now coming to a close. But in it's place is something even better.

Kevin and I have been working on DriveFans.com for the past few months and it's finally up in time for the new year, so feel free to join, browse and post. Meanwhile, this blog will remain on blogger gathering dust, occasionally being updated if the other site goes down and I'll gradually be transferring content from here to DriveFans... for historical purposes... or something.

Happy New Year.

Joss Whedon on the Recasting

Joss Whedon's commented on the cast changes being made:
Alan Ruck kinda rules. I met him at the 'Twister' party, where I got to explain that I'd written all his dialogue for his last two movies (that and 'Speed') and thank him for being so damn good. (And I always thought 'Ferris Bueller' would have been bearable if Alan had ended up with Mia.) So boo with a side of hoo.

But at least they had the sense to keep Mel. And add that other guy, whatshisname from the pizza place show.

More Recasting News

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Kevin Alejandro has been cast to play Winston Salazar, while Mircea Monroe has replaced Taryn Manning as Ellie Laird. Manning meanwhile will be staying on but in the role of Jewel, a new character that wasn't in the original pilot.

Aside from Manning, the trade is reporting that the only other actors to stay on from the original pilot are Melanie Lynskey, Emma Stone, Rochelle Aytes and Kristin Lehman.

Rob Laird Recast?

Saw a rumor here that Shawn Hatosy's character, Rob Laird, is being recast. With all the cast changes it looks like my banner's going to take an even bigger hit.

Tim Minear at the Browncoat Backup Bash

Just found this:

Nathan Fillion in Drive

Remember yesterday when Nathan Fillion had only kinda been cast? Well now he is.

An excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter article:
Fillion, who is friends with Minear, was first approached with the project in the spring but couldn't do the pilot because of a scheduling conflict with the filming of his feature "White Noise 2: The Light," slated for release Jan. 5.

"I was a little disappointed because Tim is a friend, and there is nothing better than working with people you know and like," Fillion said.

At a barbecue this summer, after the pilot was shot but before Fox picked it up to series, Minear again floated the idea for "Drive" to Fillion and showed him the pilot.

"I was so excited about it," Fillion said of his first reaction to the tape. "He has some really talented actors lined up in it, and it's exciting to get to meet them and work with them."
More recasting news should be on the way over the next week.

Nathan Fillion in Drive?

Rumors are circulating that Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity, Slither) has been cast in the role of Alex Tully in Drive, replacing Ivan Sergei.

This isn't confirmed, so come armed with grains of salt.
